Common Causes of Neck Pain

Accidents

Though whiplash (the sudden or violent motion of your neck in one direction or another) is commonly associated with car accidents, it can also be caused by falls at home or work, or collisions that occur while playing sports. The pain can caused by whiplash can range from mild (sore and stiff) to severe (hurts to move at all) depending on the amount of trauma your neck receives. If left untreated, the immediate pain may fade away, but the long term effects have already started to fall into place. Often an accident, fall or collision your were involved in years ago turns out to be the cause of the neck pain you're experiencing today.

Computers

Do you use a computer at work or home for several hours a day? If so, next time you do, take note of where your monitor, keyboard and mouse are placed. If you find yourself having to looking down at the monitor or reaching for your mouse and keyboard, consider raising your monitor to eye level (a milk crate works great!) and making your mouse and keyboard easier to reach to reduce the strain on your neck, shoulders and upper back.
